We’re in Sussex this week, taking Dayglo across the county to as many schools as we can fit in. We’ve been to Links College at Burgess Hill and Helenswood Upper School so far, and they were fantastic audiences; lots of great questions and a healthy debate at both schools. On this blog we’ll be bringing you some of the results from the debates, pictures of the tour, and video interviews with students from the school. Award winning Y Touring theatre company mix Pharmacogenetics and Punk with the screenings of a live performance of Dayglo, their latest Theatre of Debate production.
Dayglo by Abi Bown is inspired by likely advances in Pharmacogenetics and the story of era defining spirited doyens of female creativity, recently cut down by cancer. Neither their sheer feistiness nor post punk advances in medicine in the past 30 years had made them immune. It’s just not rock ‘n’ roll. How uncertain is medicine now, especially when advances in Pharmacogenetics gives the appearance of throwing up ever more ‘new’ and ‘rare’ diseases and how ‘less uncertain’ are we daring to be in the future? The screenings will be followed by a live debate featuring scientists and experts.

After the filming of DayGlo at the Westminster Kingsway college we grabbed a couple of minutes with some of the students there to ask them what they thought of the play and the issues that it raised.
